Gender and the WEFE Nexus: SureNexus at Tunisia Side Event
On February 5, 2024, SureNexus partner INNOVAGRISUD will present at the side event “Gender and the WEFE Nexus in the Mediterranean,” organized by CAWTAR, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID), and the Global Water Partnership (GWP) in Tunisia. This event is part of the broader 5th Mediterranean Water Forum, taking place from February 5 to 7 in Tunis. The forum aims to address critical water issues in the Mediterranean region, including the gender dynamics within the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus.
INNOVAGRISUD will showcase how the SureNexus project integrates gender-sensitive approaches into its WEFE Nexus framework, emphasizing the role of women as leaders in managing critical resources. The presentation will focus on case studies where empowering women in rural areas has led to more resilient, sustainable practices in agriculture, water management, and energy use.
This event will provide a platform to explore innovative solutions that address gender disparities, promote inclusivity, and advance sustainability in the Mediterranean region. By sharing SureNexus’s achievements, INNOVAGRISUD will underscore the importance of involving women in decision-making processes to create equitable, climate-resilient systems.
