Meet SureNexus, a project with one mission: a climate-resilient future for the Mediterranean region!
In SureNexus we’re tackling challenges related to water scarcity, energy supply, food security, and ecosystems restoration, with a NEXUS approach.
We’re a group of 15 partners from 7 countries, including universities, research centers, participatory solutions experts, and innovative companies and we are committed to: Implement, monitor, and optimize innovative Nature-based Solutions and Bioeconomy Practices, using state-of-the-art tools and models, with Artificial Intelligence, in 4 demonstration sites.
CATALONIA, SPAIN – At the oldest winery in Spain we treat wastewater in constructed wetlands, and use a cork by-product, granules, as a filter medium, reducing the diffuse pollution and promoting circularity in the cork industry.
TINOS, GREECE – We test solutions at two pilot sites. Firstly, a solar-powered, nature-inspired desalination system that produces fresh water, tropical fruits, and edible salt Secondly, an off-grid touristic facility, Tinos Ecolodge, that runs on regenerative electricity and applies circular solutions through rainwater harvesting, composting, wastewater treatment in constructed wetlands, and water reuse in agriculture and in the lodges.
KENITRA, MOROCCO – We apply a Precision Agriculture system for citrus production with grid – drip irrigation, including water & nutrient management, using solar energy & applying eco-friendly practices.
EMEK HAMAYAANOT, ISRAEL – In a dry and extremely heated environment we establish an agrivoltaic demonstrator that combines solar renewable panels with food production, effectively enhancing the energy, water efficiency, and agricultural potential of the land. Beginning.
We believe in the power of networks. We created a multi-stakeholder platform to ensure the participation, co-creation and knowledge exchange among the actors involved – from scientists to agricultural practitioners and policy makers.
If you want to be part of this mission, join us! 🙂
