WEFE Nexus Conference in Egypt and the MENA Region: Call for Abstracts Extended
New Cairo, Egypt 2025 — The organizing committee for the WEFE Nexus Conference in Egypt and the MENA Region has extended the deadline for abstract submissions to April 30, 2025. The conference, themed “Exploring and Bridging Nexus for a Sustainable Future,” is scheduled to take place on May 13–14, 2025, at Future University in Egypt, New Cairo. This hybrid event, organized by the SureNexus project in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair on Sustainability at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, PDS, Future University in Egypt, and INRA from Morocco, aims to bring together researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and practitioners to address the challenges and opportunities within the Water-Energy-Food-Environment (WEFE) Nexus.
Conference Themes and Structure
The conference will focus on three key pillars:

WEFE Nexus Solutions: Highlighting both innovative and ancestral resource management systems, including traditional water, energy, and agricultural practices rooted in ecological knowledge and community governance.

WEFE Nexus in Governance: Exploring policy frameworks, institutional arrangements, and decision-support systems essential for the integrated governance of WEFE resources.

Gender and WEFE Nexus: Addressing the gender aspects of WEFE resource management, emphasizing women’s empowerment and the integration of gender considerations into policies and programs.
The conference aims to bridge the gap between strategic objectives and real-world implementation of the WEFE Nexus, providing a platform for sharing practical experiences and identifying concrete solutions.
Call for Abstracts
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit abstracts that align with the conference themes. The extended deadline for submissions is April 30, 2025. Selected abstracts will be presented during the conference, contributing to the development of actionable strategies for sustainable development in the MENA region.
