Call for Abstracts: WEFE Nexus in Egypt and the MENA Region
SureNexus is pleased to share the Call for Abstracts for the upcoming international conference “WEFE Nexus in Egypt and the MENA Region”, which will take place in Cairo, Egypt, on 13 –14 May 2025. Organized by the UNESCO Chair on Sustainability at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Barcelona, Spain), in collaboration with PDS, Future University in Egypt and INRA from Morocco, the conference will bring together researchers, policymakers, development agencies, and civil society to discuss integrated approaches to managing Water, Energy, Food, and Ecosystems (WEFE) in the Middle East and North Africa.
The event aims to foster knowledge exchange and regional collaboration on sustainable resource management, with a particular focus on arid and semi-arid environments. Key topics will include case studies from Egypt and the wider MENA region, governance and financing challenges, assessment tools and modeling approaches, and technological or nature-based solutions that support the Nexus approach. By addressing the interlinkages and trade-offs between sectors, the conference seeks to promote more resilient, efficient, and inclusive development strategies.
This initiative is highly relevant to the objectives of SureNexus, which promotes integrated and evidence-based solutions to WEFE challenges across the Mediterranean. The conference offers a timely opportunity for SureNexus partners to present results from case studies, exchange methodologies, build new collaborations, and strengthen the impact of Nexus-related research and innovation in similar socio-environmental contexts.
Abstract submissions are open until 30th April 2025.
