On April 18, 2024, the National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA) and the Technical Center for Plastics and Rubber (CTPC) held a workshop titled “Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus: Smart Innovative Approach and Solutions in the Citrus Sector” at the Regional Agricultural Research Center in Kenitra, Morocco. This event highlighted Morocco’s need to adopt interconnected approaches for sustainable resource management, focusing on water, energy, and food security—key pillars of development.
The workshop was part of the PRIMA SureNexus project, which emphasizes circular economy practices and nature-based solutions in citrus production. Morocco serves as one of four demonstration sites in the SureNexus program, which aims to strengthen the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus through innovative practices, knowledge sharing, and policy framework development. Participants included researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers, who explored challenges and solutions for implementing the WEFE Nexus with a focus on inclusive governance, social equity, and environmental sustainability.
