Workshop Explores Smart Nexus Solutions for Morocco’s Citrus Sector
The National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA) and the Technical Center for Plastics and Rubber (CTPC) are organizing a workshop entitled: “Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus: Intelligent innovative approach and solutions in the citrus sector” , on Thursday April 18, 2024 at the Regional Agricultural Research Center of Kenitra, km 9 Road of Sidi Yahia-Gharb, Kenitra-north.
The availability of water in adequate quality and quantity, affordable and reliable energy services and food security are key pillars of the sustainable development of any country. To achieve this, Morocco is called upon to review silo (isolated) methodological approaches by adopting new Nexus concepts of interconnectivity based on the integration of sectors and ecological systems.
With this in mind, the PRIMA SureNexus program (www.surnexus.eu), which is an innovative project, was developed to strengthen the integration between the different components of the Nexus in the citrus sector. To do this, the National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA) and the Technical Center for Plastics and Rubber (CTPC) are organizing a national workshop for stakeholders of the “PRIMA-SureNexus” project, at CRRA-Kenitra under the title: “ Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus (WEFE): Smart innovative approach and solutions in the citrus sector”, on Thursday April 18, 2024 at the headquarters of the Regional center of Agricultural Research of Kenitra, km 9 Route de Sidi Yahia du Gharb, Kenitra-north.
Morocco is one of 4 SureNexus demonstration sites each testing different aspects of the Nexus.
The main objectives of the project are:
- Demonstrate and quantify the effectiveness of alternative circular economy practices and nature-based solutions for the implementation of Nexus;
- Study the key factors in the success of Nexus and Living-Lab;
- Develop a framework for applying Nexus concepts in practical areas and policy contexts;
- Improve collaboration and knowledge sharing in the Mediterranean region, particularly on issues related to climate, water and energy;
- Maximize project impact through stakeholder engagement and promoting replication and use of results.
The objective of the workshop is to discuss and deepen the challenges related to the application of the WEFE Nexus and to explore innovative solutions for its implementation.
To achieve this, this workshop brings together researchers, professionals, policy makers and stakeholders to exchange and share experiences and knowledge catalyzing this implementation. Through these discussions and collaborative efforts, the workshop aims to propose solutions integrating perspectives of inclusive governance, gender, environment and social equity.
This press release serves as an invitation to take part in this day and to the media to kindly cover it with their teams of journalists.
