Rachid Mrabet Highlights WEFE Nexus for Sustainable Resource Management at World Soil Day Event
On December 4, 2024, Dr. Rachid Mrabet from INRA delivered a compelling presentation titled Le Nexus Eau-Énergie-Alimentation-Écosystème (WEFE) pour un changement fondamental dans la gestion des ressources during the event Les journées de la Durabilité. This event took place at Amphi Agro 4 – Bâtiment Topo, IAV Hassan II, in celebration of World Soil Day 2024. Organized under the framework of the FAO’s Global Soil Partnership initiative, the event underscored the importance of soil health in achieving sustainable development.
Dr. Mrabet’s presentation shed light on the transformative potential of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus approach. He emphasized the necessity of integrated resource management to address challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity, and ecosystem degradation. By adopting a WEFE Nexus perspective, stakeholders can harmonize sectoral policies, enhance resilience, and foster innovation in sustainable practices.
The audience, comprising experts, students, and policymakers, engaged actively in discussions about how the WEFE Nexus approach could be tailored to Morocco’s unique environmental and socio-economic context. Dr. Mrabet also highlighted the role of interdisciplinary collaboration in driving the systemic changes needed for sustainable resource management.
The event served as a platform for knowledge exchange and advocacy, aligning with the World Soil Day 2024 theme of promoting soil health for a sustainable future. As part of the SURE NEXUS project, Dr. Mrabet’s insights contribute to advancing the practical implementation of Nexus solutions across the Mediterranean region.
