Workshop on Pan-African Water Resource Monitoring and Data Sharing with Nuclear Science and Technology

Water resource management remains a cornerstone of sustainable development, particularly in the African context, where water security challenges are intensified by climate change, population growth, and industrial demands. To address these critical issues, the Pan-African Water Resource Monitoring and Data Sharing Workshop was held from January 14 to 16, 2025. This groundbreaking event brought together leading scientists, policymakers, and industry professionals to explore the transformative role of nuclear science and technology in water management.
The workshop commenced with a powerful opening address by distinguished speakers, including representatives from the African Union, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and key regional water authorities. These leaders underscored the urgent need for integrated water resource management and the potential of nuclear technology to address these challenges.
As Africa seeks sustainable solutions to its water challenges, the integration of nuclear science and technology promises a brighter future. This workshop served as a catalyst for collaboration, innovation, and action, laying the groundwork for a more water-secure continent.
The Surenexus project participated in the workshop, during which Dr. Mrabet delivered a presentation titled “Food from Water: A Critical Nexus in the Face of Climate Change.”
